We often will come with excuses or wait for the “perfect” time to start decluttering and organizing. How often do you hear yourself saying, “I will start in the next month” or “spring is around the corner…what better than spring cleaning!” As much as you hate to admit it, these are excuses you make up to keep pushing off the task of DECLUTTERING.
Ignoring your clutter doesn’t make it disappear…the opposite is actually true, you will end up accumulating more junk. As many excuses you can come up with to put off decluttering, I am going to give you 5 reasons why you should start the process now!
- Protects your Mental Health
Do you naturally feel happy walking into a clean and organized space or a messy and a dirty one? I think we would all agree, a clean house with everything in its own place would be more relaxing than walking into a chaotic one. The type of environment we are in, for the purpose of this blog, I am referring to the physical space, it will affect how we feel emotionally and mentally. You cannot deny that there is actually a direct connection with clutter and the stress you feel.
The physical clutter in your life can in fact lead to mental clutter, affecting your focus and concentration. Everything in your environment interacts with you and impacts you in one way or another, so do yourself a huge favor and start decluttering to get rid of stuff that does not serve you! You never know, the act of decluttering might in fact be therapeutic and you just might ENJOY it!
- Saves you Time
How often have you spent your entire life looking for something?! I’ll admit it, I am just as guilty of it! It’s easy to just put away stuff mindlessly and worry about it if there is a need for it. But is it really worth all that time you waste looking for it and stressing out about? The neat part of decluttering is the process itself will naturally lead you to reorganize your stuff.
With each item in its own designated place, you will know where everything is and will save you a lot of time when you have a need for them. With less clutter and more organization, you will be more inclined to put them back where they belong rather than toss it anywhere. Time is valuable…don’t let the clutter take it away!
- Increases Productivity and Efficiency
This intertwines with saving time, you will find yourself more efficient and productive with your time with less clutter. To start off, you won’t waste your time looking for stuff…like I said an entire lifetime ????. You will also find, it’s SO MUCH EASIER to to maintain a space with less clutter and more organized. It’s much faster to tidy up, clean up and stay on top of, increasing our productivity. With less time spent cleaning, you will have more time to focus on other things you enjoy. Having many things around you will impact your mental resources, thinking process and will simply deplete your energy. Clutter can be distracting and exhausting, which can take your energy and focus away from things which are important. Save your energy with one clutter at a time!
- Saves you Money
Have you ever found yourself coming across multiple of the same products when cleaning? We will be lying if we said NO! We all are guilty of going out in a rush and buying something you need and then realizing you have the exact same one tucked and hidden away. With clutter, it’s easy to forget what you have because you don’t know where it is, so it’s common to buy things you already own…and guess what? You spend money to add to your CLUTTER! Doesn’t that sound absurd?!
No matter how small the amount you spend, it will eventually accumulate through the years. Decluttering will help you realize what’s important to you and what does not serve you. Living with less will eventually teach you to be more mindful and intentional of what you spend your money on. You will come to the practice of buying quality rather than quantity. Spend your money where it’s worth it!
- Healthy and Clean Space
This one is an obvious one! More things will collect more dust and germs. Dust can lead to respiratory issues such as sinus issues and allergies. Health issues can impact you physically and mentally by leading to more stress and lack of energy. This overall impacts the overall wellbeing of you and your family. With less clutter, it’s much easier to keep up with the cleaning leading to a cleaner and healthier environment. Declutter your way into a healthier life! ????
CUP OF FINAL THOUGHTS ????
Our environment plays a significant role in how we feel, function and behave. It’s undeniable that when you are surrounded by clutter and mess, it will affect your mood and energy. Our environment has a physical, emotional and financial impact on our lives, more than you would like to think. We owe it to ourselves to take care of ourselves by taking care of the space we live in.
We need to ensure we create a space which we would love to spend time in, thrive and grow in. The place you breathe, work, eat, laugh and live in should feel like an oasis…should feel like home and nothing less!
