Simple Morning Routine – 5 Easy Steps to start the day!

The famous Aristotle has once said “We are what we repeatedly do”. This particular statement can be applied to anything in life really, from school to your job, your relationships and to your everyday routine. Each and every little habit you accumulate overtime becomes who you are and what kind of life you create for yourself.

You don’t need to make big changes in your life overnight to become your best version, small changes repeated consistently will eventually lead to that. You can start with something small, like your morning routine. Starting the morning off in the right way can be a game changer and sets the mood for the rest of the day!

Scroll down below to see the 5 simple but profound habits you can start doing in the morning that will help you feel more energized and more zest for your life!

1. Warm water

This might seem a bit silly but drinking a warm cup of water as soon as you wake up benefits you greatly both physically and mentally. Are you wondering how?! Read on further.

  • It activates the body’s metabolism which means there is more fat burning throughout the day and improves circulation.
  • It also cleanses the intestines by eliminating waste in the body and flushing out the toxins, leaving you feel refreshed!
  • It may relieve constipation!
  • It gives you a warm fuzzy feeling! (if any of the above didn’t entice you, I bet this will!)

You can always add a squeeze of lemon to enhance the flavour if you are not a big fan of drinking water :)

2. Move your body

There are many ways to get your body activated, figuring out what works for you is the key. Not everyone enjoys the same type of exercise, which is totally fine. Choose what you enjoy and feel comfortable doing. Whichever way you choose to move your body, make sure to be consistent and enjoy the process! Here are few things you can try:

Stretching:

  • Stretching your arms, legs and back helps relieve tension and pain from the night before.
  • It kickstarts the body and mind by increasing the blood flow, activating your entire body.
  • Improves posture by helping muscles to relax and avoid tensing up.
  • It will energize you so you feel less sluggish and tired.

    Meditation:
  • Improves focus and concentration.
  • Increases self-awareness and a sense of calm.
  • Increases your energy which makes you more productive, which reduces stress and anxiety.

3. Affirmation/Gratitude

One of the powerful tools which can change your life is finding gratitude in the things you already have in your life. Being grateful for the little things which surrounds you and speaking into existence what you want, can be impactful in many ways. You can say them out loud or write it down, or do both! Starting the morning with gratitude:

  • Increases optimism which can change your brain.
  • Reminds you of the good things you got going in your life.
  • Increases happiness and positive mood giving you a peace of mind.
  • Reduces depression and anxiety and you will feel less fatigue.
  • Improves your overall physical and mental health.

4. Work on yourself

One way to get yourself motivated for the day ahead, is to do something that makes you feel good inside and feeds your soul. I know it sounds cliche, but doing something for yourself or something you enjoy in the morning can really boost your energy and creates a sense of confident. It doesn’t have to be anything complicated, it can be a simple hobby such as reading a book, or writing poetry but you need to connect with what makes you happy and gets you excited.

There is no time frame in how long you need to do this for, it can be as little as 10 mins or as long as an hour. You can even spend time setting the goal for the day which sets your intention for what you want to achieve.

5. Step outside

You are probably wondering what this means. It’s exactly as it sounds, stepping out of your house into the daylight, welcome in the sunshine! This might not seem significant but it does wonders:

  • It kickstarts the body’s sleep-wake cycle which helps you feel more awake in the morning.
  • Keeps circadian rhythm in balance.
  • It activates the molecules that produce vitamin D which adds many benefits to your physical and mental health.
  • Increases the immune system.
  • Helps with serotonin production which helps you relax and reduces stress.
